Why We Exist
1.5 million people in the U.S. have some form of autism, making it the second most common developmental disability. Autism and other Autism Spectrum Disorders affect approximately 1 in 110 children. The onset of autism specifically usually occurs before the age of 3.
Early intervention is important and increases the chance for positive outcomes for clients. Additionally, positive support, community education and skill development are central to the success of a person who has an Autism Spectrum Disorder
Although many people including doctors, teachers and parents sometimes dismiss the symptoms of ASD, in hopes that the child will "catch up" - the earlier the disorder is diagnosed, the sooner specific interventions can begin. Early intervention may reduce or prevent the more severe disabilities associated with ASD.
